New Yorkers voted to create the Civic Engagement Commission (CEC) in 2018. It is an amendment to the City Charter.

The CEC helps increase civic participation and trust.

The CEC provides:

  • Citywide participatory budgeting programs
  • Poll site language access plans
  • Increased awareness of City services

The CEC helps:

  • City agencies increase civic participation
  • Community-based groups and civic leaders
  • Community boards

The CEC consults with advisory committees as needed.
