Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) recommends that all pet owners visit their local animal care center to check for their lost pets. You can also go online to see photos and descriptions of animals that are currently at the shelter.

ACC takes reports of lost and found pets on its website. There is no guarantee that a pet will be found through these reports, so it is highly encouraged that you visit the care center if you have lost your pet.

If you do not have internet access, you can file a lost pet report at one of the care centers. If you believe your pet has been seized by ACC or the NYPD, you should go to an ACC Care Center in person.

Visit the Animal Care Centers of NYC website.

Animal Care Center offices and drop-off locations are closed on the following holidays:

  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day
  • New Year's Day

If you have found a dog with a City license tag on its collar, you can report it online. You will need to enter the 7-digit license number found on the tag.

The dog's owner will get an email notifying them that you have found their dog. The Department of Health will also be notified so it can assist in reuniting the dog with its owner if necessary.

You may also drop the dog off at any Animal Care Centers of NYC shelter or Care Center.

Report a dog found with a license tag.
