All trained guard dogs in New York City must be registered.
Registration requirements include:
- A current New York City dog license
- An annual fee of $10
- A microchip implanted in the dog for permanent identification purposes
- The microchip ID number must be provided to NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene when applying for or renewing your Guard Dog License
- Notification of any changes to ownership (theft, loss, or transfer) within 5 days of the event
- Vaccination against rabies
