Washington Bridge vs George Washington Bridge

The Washington Bridge, listed above, is a toll-free bridge that connects upper Manhattan and the Bronx. It is different from the George Washington Bridge.

The George Washington Bridge, sometimes referred to as the GWB, is a toll bridge connecting Manhattan to Fort Lee, New Jersey. The GWB is managed by the Port Authority of NY and NJ (PANYNJ). Go to the "Bridges to New Jersey" section below for information and complaints about the GWB.

Cashless Tolling

As part of the new cashless tolling system, overhead equipment will instantly read a vehicle’s E-ZPass tag. If a vehicle doesn't have an E-ZPass tag, a photograph will be taken of its license plate and a toll bill will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. Vehicles should keep moving through the toll plaza at safe speeds.
